Cutaneous Leishmaniasis (CL) in Saudi Arabia: Current Status
نویسنده
چکیده
Cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) is a major tropical infection of public health importance. It is caused by a group of protozoan intracellular parasites. Several factors contribute to the prevalence and transmission of CL. More than 1400 cases of CL were reported in Saudi Arabia in 2012. Although several studies have looked at CL in Saudi Arabia and emphasized on the Eastern province of the country, the highest prevalence of CL was reported in AlQuaseem area. In this review, we report on the species of Leishmania parasites causing CL in Saudi Arabia, its distribution and its incidence in the past seven years. We also report on the methods used to diagnose this infection and the treatment protocols used to treat CL in the country.

متن کاملSeverity of Old World Cutaneous Leishmaniasis Is Influenced by Previous Exposure to Sandfly Bites in Saudi Arabia
BACKGROUND The sandfly Phlebotomus papatasi is the vector of Leishmania major, the main causative agent of Old World cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) in Saudi Arabia. Sandflies inject saliva while feeding and the salivary protein PpSP32 was previously shown to be a biomarker for bite exposure. Here we used recombinant PpSP32 to evaluate human exposure to Ph. papatasi bites, and study the associatio...

This study explores the spatial trends of cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) and characterises the relationships between the observed spatial patterns and climate in Jordan, Syria, Iraq and Saudi Arabia in 2009. Areal interpolation revealed the presence of four major hotspots of relatively high incidence rates covering most parts of Syria, central parts of Iraq, and north-western, central, south-east...
